The majority of the gouaches were created in New York at the end of the 1950s. They are paintings of high aesthetic quality, whose figurative abstractions reflect motifs from metropolitan life in New York and Paris.
As part of the metropolis, Warja Lavater observed the movements and behaviors of people and developed human figures that she could depict with a sweeping technique to capture their movements and other events.
